HIL Simulation Testing

Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation is an effective technology used in development & testing of complex real-time embedded systems by adding the complexity of the plant under control to the test platform. In Automotive with increasing demand for Autonomous features & Electric powertrain which require insane amount of information to be processed real-time and it is near to impossible testing these applications on the Real Vehicle and thus HIL simulation becomes the only plausible approach for testing at various validation phases. During HIL testing the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is connected to a Test System which mimics an assembled product like Braking System or even an entire vehicle except for Device under test. HIL testing has several key benefits like Cost-effectiveness, Time-to-Market and Safety while operating. Various Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications like VT System, dSpace Scalexio, ETAS Labcar, etc. can be chosen for HIL Simulation to encourage re-usability & extensibility of tests and provide enough interfaces and support to automate the whole testing process as well.
